Description (Translated):

This is my first album in my thirties.
The conclusions and details are completely different, but the energy is the same as when I was 23. I have become an adult with completely different desires than the ones I was greedy for back then, but the essence of being a ‘greedy person’ remains the same. I erased the question marks and drew an exclamation point in their place. In my thirties, the first column on my list of new desires was filled with ‘victory.’ Now I'm not confused about what I want. For the first time in a while, I am having fun like this again.


1. Shopper

The story of shoppers who shop for what they want based on their own tastes and standards in a store that never closes.
The items they put in their cart are very personal. By the standards of others and the world, they may be too trivial, excessive, strange, or not very valuable. But shoppers don't care. They listen to themselves to realize what they truly want and choose exactly what will make them happy, and they are only satisfied by putting their desires and tastes in their cart.
In this shop, only the shopper sets the price tag for the value of his or her desires. It is up to him to decide whether the choice is worthwhile or not.

The things I put in my cart as a shopper are the emotions and moments I encountered during the performance of ‘The Golden Hour: Under the Orange Sun’ in 2022. At that performance, I strongly felt desires of determination that were somewhat unfamiliar to me.
Those two days of performance while I was feeling a bit burnt out at work completely turned the theme and atmosphere of the album I was preparing in advance, as well as my energy towards it. I wanted to leave the easy and comfortable things behind for a while and challenge myself once again. It was the audience on that hot night that helped me clear my mind as I was circling around the same spot and putting off finishing my album day after day, unable to admit that I was burnt out.
The voices of tens of thousands of people came into me as clearly as one person's voice and awakened new desires. As a result, I put the courage and overwhelmingness I felt into this song. This time, I hope that my voice will give those who listen to this song ‘the courage to be confident in what they want.’ /

Electro-Pop Rock track with an intense sound.
Based on the cool guitar sound, various transitions continuously stimulate the ears.
IU's vocals repeat restraint and divergence throughout the song, giving you the fun of carbon dioxide exploding in your head.
The FX sources added in a playful way throughout the song add to the exciting feeling of shopping at a market.


2. Mr. Hall

In ‘CHAT-SHIRE,’ the first album I produced myself in my 20s, I compared my age to a flower.
Whether it's a colorful flower or a small flower. At that time, I believed that I was a flower that would bloom when the time came.
I, in my 30s, who realized that there is no reason or need for everyone in the world to become a flower, wants to live as a seed fluttering alone in the sky. Like a tireless shopper, I want to wander aimlessly, scrolling through the various options displayed all over my world and putting them in my cart. /

A track with a unique composition based on Hip-Hop/R&B.
On the heavy Drum & Bass, IU's voice exudes a variety of charms, sometimes expressing the flexibility of an R&B singer, sometimes the leisureliness of a confident rapper, and sometimes the cheerfulness and simplicity of children singing children's songs.


3. Shh.. (Feat. HYEIN, Jo Won-seon & Special Narr. Patty Kim)

'This is not a simple story of friendship.
It is not a simple love story either.

Although it is based on a deep blues sensibility, it is a song that requires attention to changes in genre depending on the singer.
The sound was created to optimize the tone of each artist, including IU's part with a Soul Blues feel, New Jeans' Hyein's part with an R&B tone, and Cho Won-seon's part with a rock sound variation.
Each vocalist's unique and skillful interpretation of the same melody, the top-notch playing of IU's band members, and the voice of 'master' Patty Kim, who closes this confusingly attractive song, represent the diversity of generations and genres, and a harmony that encompasses all layers. 4. Love wins all

Some say that this is an era of great hatred.
It certainly doesn't seem like a time when love is prevalent.
In an increasingly gray world with palpable hostility and indifference,

However, from what I have experienced first-hand, hate is always alone even when the momentum is good.
On the other hand, even though it runs away, breaks apart, and fades away, love stays together forever.

As a side note, this album, which contains five songs, has two songs dedicated to the people I love, especially my fans, and one of them is the song Love wins all.
From the age of 18, when I suddenly received great love and my life changed overnight, until now.
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think about what's going to happen. I thought it was vaguely lonely, scary, and natural.
But after thinking about it like that every day for ten years, my attitude toward it changed little by little.
It's not that scary now. I don't think I will feel any more regretful or lonely at that moment.
Above all, it doesn't seem that close.
The reason why I, a pessimistic and worried child, was able to change so much is probably because there were people who reassured me every day without getting tired over the past 10 years.
Thanks to them, when I think about it, I have never been alone for a single moment while living as IU.
To my diligent fans who have never left me alone.
I would like to say thank you for nurturing endless love in my heart, who is probably a naturally hard-working type.
Also, I still don't know why, but I'm really grateful that he always chooses to be by my side.

IU, who has been greatly loved by fans through songs such as 'Secret', 'To the Name', 'Love Poem', and 'Child and My Sea', is a ballad song with a definite momentum, starting with a minimal and vintage piano intro and ending with a maximalist outro. Continuing the Daegok Ballad series. Towards the end, the emotions are maximized by the vocals that swirl like a battle and the instrument composition reminiscent of a splendid symphony.
The rhythm that seems to be swimming in the sky and the harmony themes piled on top of it enhance the charm of the 6/8 time signature, and the strings that spread widely and gently embrace the entire sound add to the width and depth of the song.

5. I will be the audience (I stand U)

‘I will become your passionate audience’ is probably the most romantic expression I can say to someone right now. To me, this is what the audience means.
I want to sincerely repay that much love to those who agreed with my music and words with sparkling eyes and no sign of fatigue until the end of the long performance. I really want to provide that much support in your life as well. I want to live more clearly and diligently to preserve the meaning of what we have shared. Saying thank you is not enough. Saying I love you is not enough.
Standing face to face, showing affection with your eyes and voice,
I will be your audience. /

This song is dynamic and non-stop for 3 minutes, with an introduction that begins with a melodic guitar riff and refreshing vocals, a dreamy B part, a chorus that breathes together, a bridge that makes you jump around like a child, and the final climax. It feels like a concert put into one song.
The electric guitar and strings are in perfect harmony, leading the song to an overall pop rock sound. Singer, audience, band. It is a song that allows everyone in the concert hall to become each other's audience and breathe with excitement.

삼십 대 첫 앨범이다.
결론과 디테일들은 판이하지만 기운만큼은 스물세 살 때의 그것이다. 그때 욕심내던 것들과는 전혀 다른 욕심들에 피가 도는 어른이 됐으나 이러나저러나 '욕심쟁이'라는 본질은 그대로다. 골똘하던 물음표들을 지우고 그 자리에 느낌표를 그렸다. 삼십 대 들어 새로이 쓸 욕심 리스트의 첫 번째 칸은 '승리'로 채웠다. 이제는 내가 원하는 것이 뭔지 헷갈리지 않는다. 간만에 나는 이런 내가 다시 또 재밌다.


1. Shopper

영원히 문 닫지 않는 가게에서 자신만의 취향과 기준으로 원하는 것을 쓸어 담는 쇼퍼들의 이야기.
그들이 카트에 담는 물건은 아주 개인적이다. 남들의 기준, 세상의 기준으로 보기에 너무 시시하거나 혹은 과하거나 어쩌면 요상하거나 그다지 가치롭지 않은 것들일 수도 있다. 하지만 쇼퍼들은 개의치 않는다. 자신이 진정으로 원하는 것을 깨닫기 위해 몸소 귀 기울이고 스스로를 행복하게 만들어줄 물건을 정확히 고르는 그들은, 본인의 욕망과 취향을 양껏 카트에 담으며 만족스러울 뿐이다.
이 샵에서 본인 욕망의 가치에 대한 가격표는 오직 쇼퍼 본인이 단다. 그 선택이 가치로운지 아닌지는 오롯이 그가 판단한다.

내가 쇼퍼로서 카트에 담은 것들은 2022년 'The Golden Hour : 오렌지 태양 아래' 공연에서 마주했던 감정과 순간들이다. 나는 그 공연에서 나로서는 다소 낯선 결의 욕망들을 강하게 느꼈다.
일에 있어 약간의 번아웃을 느끼던 와중에 마주한 그 이틀간의 공연은 미리 준비 중이었던 이 앨범의 주제와 분위기, 그리고 그것에 임하는 나의 에너지 자체를 싸그리 뒤집어 놓았다. 쉽고 편한 것은 잠시 뒤로 하고 다시 한번 쏟아내듯 도전하고 싶어졌다. 번아웃이라는 걸 인정하지 못한 채 같은 자리를 빙빙 돌며 차일피일 앨범의 마무리를 미루던 내 머릿속을 명료하게 정리해 준 것은 그 더운 밤의 관객들이었다.
수만 명의 소리가 한 사람의 목소리처럼 또렷이 내 안에 들어와 새로운 욕심들을 깨웠다. 그로 인해 내가 느꼈던 용기와 벅참을 이 곡에 욱여 담았다. 이번에는 내 목소리가 이 곡을 듣는 이들에게 '자신이 원하는 것에 확신을 가질 용기'가 되길 바란다. /

강렬한 사운드의 Electro-Pop Rock 트랙.
시원한 기타 사운드를 기반으로 다양한 transition들이 쉴 새 없이 귀를 자극한다.
아이유의 보컬은 곡 내내 절제와 발산을 반복하며 머릿속에서 탄산이 터지는 듯한 재미를 선사한다.

2. 홀씨

20대에 처음으로 직접 프로듀싱한 앨범 'CHAT-SHIRE'에서 나는 내 나이를 한 떨기 꽃으로 비유했다.
화려한 꽃이든 잔꽃이든. 그때는 내가 때 되면 만개할 꽃이라고 믿었다.
세상 모두가 꽃이 될 이유도, 꽃이 될 필요도 없다는 것을 깨달은 30대의 나는 하늘에 홀홀히 나부끼는 홀씨로 살고자 한다. 지치지 않는 쇼핑객처럼 목적지 없이 휘적휘적 구경하고 떠돌며, 내 세상 곳곳에 진열된 다양한 선택지들을 카트에 넣고 싶다. /

Hip-Hop/R&B 기반의 독특한 구성을 지닌 트랙.
묵직한 Drum & Bass 위에서 아이유의 목소리는 때로는 R&B singer의 유연함, 때로는 자신감 넘치는 Rapper의 여유로움, 때로는 동요를 부르는 듯한 아이들의 명랑함과 담백함을 보컬로 표현하며 다양한 매력을 발산한다.

진한 Blues 감성을 기반으로 하지만 가창자에 따른 장르적 변화를 주목해야 하는 곡이다.
Soul Blues 느낌의 아이유 파트, R&B 기조의 뉴진스 혜인 파트, Rock 사운드로 변주되는 조원선 파트 등 각 아티스트가 가진 음색에 최적화하여 사운드를 구성하였다.
같은 멜로디를 대하는 각 보컬리스트들의 개성 있고 노련한 해석과 아이유 밴드 멤버들의 최정상급 플레이, 그리고 이 혼란하도록 매력적인 곡을 닫는 '대가' 패티김의 목소리는 세대와 장르의 다채로움과, 그 모든 레이어를 아우르는 조화를 동시에 느끼게 만든다.


4. Love wins all

누군가는 지금을 대혐오의 시대라 한다.
분명 사랑이 만연한 때는 아닌 듯하다.
눈에 띄는 적의와 무관심으로 점점 더 추워지는 잿빛의 세상에서,
눈에 보이지 않는 사랑을 무기로 승리를 바라는 것이 가끔은 터무니없는 일로 느껴질 때도 있다.
하지만 직접 겪어본 바로 미움은 기세가 좋은 순간에서조차 늘 혼자다.
반면에 도망치고 부서지고 저물어가면서도 사랑은 지독히 함께다.
사랑에게는 충분히 승산이 있다.

사랑하기를 방해하는 세상에서 끝까지 사랑하려 애쓰는 이들의 이야기를 담았다.

여담으로 다섯 곡이 담긴 이 앨범에는 내가 사랑하는 사람들에게, 특히 나의 팬들에게 바치는 두 곡이 있는데 그중 하나가 이 곡 Love wins all이다.
느닷없이 큰 사랑을 받으며 하루아침에 인생이 달라졌던 열여덟 살부터 지금까지.
저무는 일에 대해 하루도 상상하지 않은 날이 없다. 막연히 외롭고, 무섭고, 또 당연한 일이라 생각했다.
그런데 그렇게 매일매일 십몇 년을 생각했더니 그것에 대한 태도도 조금씩 달라지더라.
지금은 별로 무섭지 않다. 그 순간 아쉬움이 더 크거나 외로울 것 같지 않다.
무엇보다 그리 가까울 것 같지 않다.
비관적이고 걱정 많은 아이였던 내가 그사이 이렇게나 달라질 수 있었던 이유는 그렇게 근근이 이어져 온 십몇 년 동안 지치지도 않고 매일 나를 안심시켜 준 누군가들이 있었기 때문일 것이다.
그들 덕분에, 생각해 보면 나는 아이유로 살며 단 한순간도 혼자였던 적이 없다.
한 번도 나를 혼자 둔 적 없는 나의 부지런한 팬들에게.
어쩌면 타고나기를 악건성 타입인 내 마음속에 끝없이 사랑을 길러주어 고맙다는 말을 하고 싶다.
또, 어떤 이유에서인지는 여전히 모르겠지만 번번이 내 곁을 선택해 주어 정말 고맙다는 말도.
당신들이 내게 그래주었듯 나도 당신들의 떠오름과 저묾의 순간에 함께하는 사람이고 싶다.
그 옆에서 “무섭지 않아. 우리 제일 근사하게 저물자.”라고 말해주는 사람이고 싶다. /

미니멀하고 빈티지한 피아노 인트로로 운을 띄워 맥시멈한 아웃트로에 이르기까지 기승전결이 확실한 발라드 곡으로 '비밀', '이름에게', 'Love poem', '아이와 나의 바다'등 팬들에게 큰 사랑을 받아온 아이유의 대곡 발라드 시리즈를 이어간다. 후반부로 갈수록 전투하듯 휘몰아치는 보컬과 화려한 심포니를 연상시키는 악기 구성들이 감정을 극대화한다.

'당신의 열렬한 관객이 되겠다'는 말은 아마 지금의 내가 타인에게 할 수 있는 가장 로맨틱한 표현일 것이다. 내게 있어 관객의 의미가 그렇다.
긴 공연이 끝날 때까지 지친 기색 없이 눈을 반짝이며 나의 음악과 말들에 동의해 준 그들에게 꼭 그만큼의 사랑을 성실히 갚고 싶다. 당신들의 인생에도 꼭 그만큼의 응원이 되어주고 싶다. 우리가 나눈 것들의 의미를 지키기 위해 또박또박 더 열심히 살고 싶다. 고맙다는 말은 너무나 모자라다. 사랑한다는 말도 충분치 않다.

멜로디컬한 기타 리프와 산뜻한 보컬로 시작되는 도입부, 몽환적인 b파트를 지나 함께 호흡하는 후렴구, 어린아이처럼 뛰어노는 브릿지를 지나 마지막 클라이맥스까지 3분 동안 쉴 틈 없이 다이내믹하게 몰아치는 이 곡은 아이유의 콘서트를 한 곡에 넣어놓은 느낌이다.
